I first learned about user experience design during a high school internship at Q LTD, a design firm in Ann Arbor. I worked with a developer to design, code and test responsive websites. From there I went into a computer science major at the University of Maryland. I learned to code games in Java and developed an understanding of the mathematical concepts of propositional logic. Although I enjoyed the challenge, I realized it wasn’t the perfect fit.I switched majors to Information Science and greatly enjoyed my courses in information organization, database design, and organizational management. But something was still missing, and I explored alternative career paths. I worked as a wedding planner for a summer, and that’s when everything fell into place. The high pressure situations are where I thrive. I love being creative and finding design solutions to help make crisis situations go more smoothly. Instead of the data analysis aspect of information science, I realized focusing on helping people was the piece that I was missing. I went back to the iSchool with a renewed passion.
I want to focus my career path on user experience, research, and design. UX has helped me realize what the world could be. It allows the ability to design a world where everyone's needs are met, where everyone is given a place, where everyone has a voice. I have found that the most meaningful part of the work I do is helping people in difficult situations. Striving to find and design a better way while fixing problems is why I plan to build a career in this field. Please check out examples of my work below.
